Going against the stream

Noah Levine
31 July – 5 August, 2017

Language: English

Author of Dharma Punx, Against The Stream, The Heart of the Revolution and Refuge Recovery, is a Buddhist teacher, author and counselor. He has created a Buddhist approach to addiction recovery called Refuge Recovery, that includes peer lead meetings as well as a professional treatment center. He is also the founding teacher of Against the Stream Buddhist Meditation Society, with centers in Los Angeles, San Francisco and Nashville and over 20 affiliated groups around North America. He teaches meditation classes, workshops and retreats internationally. Noah holds a Masters degree in counseling psychology and lives in Los Angeles.

During this 5 day Insight Meditation retreat we will focus our attention on our breath, body, heart and mind. The instructions will be based upon the Four Foundations of Mindfulness in combination with exercises in loving-kindness and compassion. Each day will include periods of sitting and walking meditation, Dharma talks and interviews.

Using a hybrid of mindfulness and loving-kindness meditation techniques, Noah will offer an experience of the teachings and practices of early Buddhism. We will learn how to develop a greater sense of care for ourselves and for our world through the revolutionary practices of the Dharma. These practices will guide us to a path of meditative awareness, which can alleviate and end suffering.

This silent retreat will explore the many ways that true spiritual practice is an engagement with life that goes against the stream of the confusion of this world and is therefore an act of rebellion. This ancient path of awakening our own deepest wisdom and compassion is accessible to all who choose it. We hope that you will join us.
