Eight-Day Silent Meditation Retreat

with Jen Whitney and Rose Riccio, honouring Michael Stone’s legacy and teachings

Join us for a silent meditation retreat, led by Jen Whitney and Rose Riccio, which will honor Michael’s legacy and teachings. This retreat, offered in English, will support new students in establishing a meditation practice and help experienced meditators to go deeper. Meals will be vegetarian, and there will be a daily movement/yoga practice, afternoon dharma talks, and opportunities for one-on-one meetings with Jen and Rose.

 

We are limiting attendance to 50 students.

As we strive to be an open and inclusive community, accepting and supporting diversity in age, race, physical and mental abilities, as well as sexual orientation and gender identity* we welcome requests regarding accommodation.

*Our sangha is inclusive of trans and gender nonconforming people. We recognize that gender is not dependent on how someone looks and can be something other than male or female. One’s gender is often inferred by the pronoun used as reference (he/she/they). We encourage mindfulness around pronouns.

Facilitators

Rose Riccio began studying with Michael nearly a decade ago. Over the last few years, Rose has been assisting Michael closely on annual retreats and workshops as part of his two-year mentorship program. As a registered massage therapist and yoga teacher, Rose offers postural assistance to make the experience of sitting as comfortable as possible. She helps organize retreats, offers meditation instruction, and supports community needs as they arise. Rose feels deeply committed to continuing this practice that Michael so generously shared with us.

Jen Whitney has been teaching yoga, dharma, and meditation since 2006 across the United States and internationally. She teaches weekly yoga and meditation classes throughout New York City and Brooklyn, and leads a small local dharma sangha. Jen is currently pursuing her PhD in Psychology. She’s interested in the intersection of contemplative mind/body practices and Western psychological therapy, particularly how those practices impact the interpersonal dimension of life. Jen studied formally with Michael in his first two-year mentorship program, as well as assisted him on retreats and trainings.

Costs

Teaching fee: CAD $600 (approx €400)

You need to first pay this fee. Once you’re registered you will be redirected back to the Moulin website to book your accommodation.

Accommodation & Food

Camping (your own tent) – €420 + €10 membership
Moulin tent – €560 + €10 membership (one person per tent; includes tent, bed, mattress, linen, towels, lighting, etc.)
Shared room – €560 + €10 membership
Single rooms – €665 + €10 membership

How to pay

This event must be paid in full at the time of registration.  First the teaching fee and then the accommodation payment.

Cancellation

If there is a cancellation, the event is refundable, less a €100 administration fee, until one month before the event begins, and 50% refundable until 14 days before the event. If you cancel less than 14 days before the event start date then there is no refund.

ARRIVALS

You are welcome to arrive between 14h and 20h on the opening day of this event.It is not possible to arrive before this date unless you are attending a previous retreat.

DEPARTURE

Rooms need to be vacated by 10h, on the closing day of this event and we ask that you leave by 15h. Lunch is the last meal which you are welcome to stay for. It is not possible to stay on at Le Moulin, unless you are attending the next retreat.

ACCOMMODATION 

ROOMS  All rooms in the main house share two bathrooms and toilets on each floor of the building. There are no en-suites.

The Garden dormitory (women only) has beds for up to 8 people. There is a short walk to the shower and toilet complex, therefore a torch is recommended.

We provide bedding and towels for all rooms.

MEALS

During your stay here, you will be offered 3 healthy and nutritionally balanced vegetarian meals. The main meal of the day is lunch with a lighter supper of soup, salad, bread and spreads in the evening time. We endeavour to use organic and fair-trade ingredients as much as possible (around 80% organic), combined with locally sourced produce that is farmed in a sustainable way.

For those who are vegan, wheat, gluten or diary free, or have any other dietary restrictions, we can provide on request a simple diet of steamed vegetables, a simple protein such as lentils, pulses and a simple carbohydrate. We are sorry but we are unable to offer any other more specialised diets.

Hots drinks are available all day.

MEDITATION AND YOGA

We provide meditation mats, cushions, chairs and shawls.

We have enough yoga mats for up to 50 people, however if you use yoga props, you need to bring your own.

Please bring indoor shoes/slippers for the main building,

An alarm clock

Comfortable loose clothing for sitting and walking meditation, plus exercise practice.

Appropriate clothing for cool and hot weather.

A towel if you are camping

A european power adapter

Your own cup (optional)

WEATHER

It can get very hot in the height of the summer, so sun hats, water bottles, and sun cream can be useful.  However as we are next to a river, the mornings and evenings can be quite cool, so do bring a warm jumper/jacket. 

KARMA YOGA ~ Giving of service 

Moulin de Chaves is a non profit Association. Everyone who comes here on retreat contributes one hour of their time each day towards the running of the Moulin. This may be anything from washing up, veggie chopping, cleaning, or gardening. We thank you in advance for helping us in this way.

MEMBERSHIP

The Moulin de Chaves operates as a French registered Non Profit Association (loi 1901). In order to maintain this status, all activities are offered as a service to Association members. The annual subscription of €10 allows us to offer events at the Moulin for the lowest possible cost. Without membership, we would have to operate as a profit-oriented, tax-paying organization.
