On this week-long Heart of Insight Meditation Retreat*, led by Emily Horn and Vincent Horn, you’ll have the rare opportunity to dedicate yourself to uninterrupted practice in a community of peers. Over the course of the retreat we’ll work on incorporating all aspects of our being, including the body, heart, & mind, into the fold of awakened presence. This full-spectrum presence allows us to more fully respond to the needs of the moment, whatever they may be. The bulk of the retreat will be held in silence, punctuated by periods of teaching, social meditation, and small group meetings with the retreat teachers.

This retreat meets the prerequisite requirement for the Mindfulness Teacher Certification program offered by The Awareness Training Institute and Greater Good Science Center via Sounds True.

Emily Horn is authorized to teach meditation, dharma, and retreats by Spirit Rock Meditation Center, Insight Meditation Society, and InsightLA. She has consulted for various meditation and VR apps, developed meditations for Boston Children’s Hospital’s Comfort Ability Project, and led mindfulness workshops for large national conferences. Emily is a host for the Buddhist Geeks Podcast and leads retreats at Heart of Insight Trainings. Emily has been called a “power player of the mindfulness movement” by Wired Magazine. For her, a mindful life is simply learning to dance with all of this human experience: from transcendence to dirty dishes, evolutionary edges to ancient roots, solitary practice to deepening relationships. She lives the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina with her husband, Vincent, and son, Zander.

Vincent Horn is part of a new generation of teachers & translators exploring dharma in the age of the network. A computer engineering dropout turned full-time contemplative, he spent his 20s co-founding the ground-breaking Buddhist Geeks Podcast, while simultaneously doing a full year, in total, of silent retreat practice. Vincent began teaching in 2010 having been authorized in both the Pragmatic Dharma lineage of Kenneth Folk, and by Trudy Goodman, guiding teacher of InsightLA, in the Insight Meditation tradition.  Vincent has been called a “power player of the mindfulness movement” by Wired magazine and was featured in Wired UK’s “Smart List: 50 people who will change the world.”  He currently lives in the Blue Ridge Mountains outside of Asheville, North Carolina with his partner Emily Horn and their son Zander.

Costs

Registration Details

The cost of this 7-day retreat includes a non-refundable $350 USD Deposit, which secures your spot in the retreat and covers our administrative & travel costs. You will then need to pay a separate fee  to cover your room and board.

These fees do not cover your travel costs or the teachers pay, which operates based on the generosity model.

The Generosity Model

At the end of the retreat you’ll have an opportunity to participate in the generosity model, which involves making a donation to the teachers.  There is no recommended amount to donate, as this is very much about the practice of unscripted generosity.  That said, if you’d like to see transparent figures on how much has been donated to past retreats, you can view it here.

This retreat is put on by Buddhist Geeks, an educational 501(c)3 non-profit, so all teacher donations are tax-deductible.

Cancellation Policy

Late cancellations make it difficult to give someone else the opportunity to attend. Should you need to cancel, after you’ve paid for your accommodations, please contact Moulin de Chaves immediately.
The initial deposit of $350 USD is non-refundable, with the following cancellation policy for participants who have already booked their accommodation.

HOW TO PAY

This event must be paid in full at the time of registration. Payment is by Paypal and credit card through the online registration process.
Once you have completed the process, you will receive a confirmation email with the details of your booking. If you do not receive this email, (check spam folder first) or you experience any difficulties booking, please contact us directly by email or telephone.

MOULIN CANCELLATION POLICY

If a participant should cancelled this event 2 months before the starting date, it is refundable less a €100 administration fee. If cancelled 1 month before the event, 50% is refundable . If cancelled less than 1 month before the event, there is no refund.

Participants may wish to take out an insurance to cover themselves in case of any eventuality

If the moulin should cancel this event, it would return all monies paid by participants for moulin accommodation.

MORE INFORMATION

ARRIVALS

You are welcome to arrive between 14h and 20h on the opening day of this event.It is not possible to arrive before this date unless you are attending a previous retreat.

DEPARTURE

Rooms need to be vacated by 10h, on the closing day of this event and we ask that you leave by 15h. Lunch is the last meal which you are welcome to stay for. It is not possible to stay on at Le Moulin, unless you are attending the next retreat.

ACCOMMODATION
We have several accommodation options; Single room, shared room or fully equipped Moulin tents in the warmer season. For certain retreats it is also possible to camp in your own tent.
ROOMS  

All bedrooms in the main house share two bathrooms and toilets on each floor of the building. We provide bedding and towels for all rooms and all Moulin tents.

MOULIN TENTS 

If you choose to stay in a moulin tent, available for either one or two people, we will provide everything you need.  A bed ( yes a bed!!) quilt, bedding, lighting, torch, towel, and anything else to make you comfortable. The tent will also have space to keep your luggage and belongings.

CAMPING IN YOUR OWN TENTS   (FOR LARGE RETREATS ONLY)

If the retreat you choose offers the option to camp in your own tent, please bring the following:  your own tent, ground sheet, warm sleeping bag, a towel, a torch, and anything else to make you comfortable.

As the weather can be changeable, we highly recommend you bring a warm jumper or fleece, even in the summer time.

MEALS

During your stay here, you will be offered 3 healthy and nutritionally balanced vegetarian meals. The main meal of the day is lunch with a lighter supper of soup, salad, bread and spreads in the evening time. We endeavour to use organic and fair-trade ingredients as much as possible (around 80% organic), combined with locally sourced produce that is farmed in a sustainable way.

For those who are vegan, wheat, gluten or diary free, or have any other dietary restrictions, we can provide on request a simple diet of steamed vegetables, a simple protein such as lentils, pulses and a simple carbohydrate. We are sorry but we are unable to offer any other more specialised diets.

Hots drinks are available all day.

MEDITATION AND YOGA

We provide meditation mats, cushions, chairs and shawls.

We have enough yoga mats for up to 50 people, however if you use yoga props, you need to bring your own.

WHAT  TO BRING

Please bring indoor shoes/slippers for the main building,

An alarm clock, if possible not your mobile phone.

Comfortable loose clothing for sitting and walking meditation, plus exercise practice.

Appropriate clothing for cool and hot weather.

A european power adapter.

Mosquito repellant if you are camping

WEATHER

It can get very hot in the height of the summer, so sun hats, water bottles, and sun cream can be useful.  However as we are next to a river, the mornings and evenings can be quite cool, so do bring a warm jumper/jacket. 

KARMA YOGA ~ GIVING OF SERVICE 

Moulin de Chaves is a non profit Association. Everyone who comes here on retreat contributes one hour of their time each day towards the running of the Moulin. This may be anything from washing up, veggie chopping, cleaning, or gardening. We thank you in advance for helping us in this way.

MEMBERSHIP

The Moulin de Chaves operates as a French registered Non Profit Association (loi 1901). In order to maintain this status, all activities are offered as a service to Association members. The annual subscription of €10  allows us to offer events at the Moulin for the lowest possible cost. Without membership, we would have to operate as a profit-oriented, tax-paying organization.
